چکیده

The rate of jets expected in ALICE was determined using PYTHIA. We first calculated the inclusive jet cross section in pp̄ collision at √ s=1.8 TeV and compared it to the data of the D0 experiment[1]. As shown in Fig. 1, the PYTHIA calculation, up-scaled by K=1.5, describes the data reasonably well. The calculation was performed in three runs differing by the value of the CKIN(50) parameter which defines the minimum momentum transfer, i.e. the “hardness” of a collision. The three curves, corresponding to CKIN(3) of 50, 100, and 200 GeV, nicely match in overlap regions. The CTEQ4HJ structure function was used.

Charged particle jet measurements with the ALICE experiment in proton-proton collisions at the LHC

We present preliminary results of measurements of charged particle jet properties in proton-proton collisions at √ s = 7 TeV using the ALICE detector. Jets are reconstructed using anti − kT, kT and SISCone jet finding algorithms with resolution parameter R = 0.4 in the range of transverse momentum from 20 to 100 GeV/c in the midrapidity region (| η | < 0.5). The uncorrected charged jet spectra ...

Heat Transfer under Double Turbulent Pulsating Jets Impinging on a Flat Surface

In this study, the numerical analysis of turbulent flow and heat transfer of double pulsating impinging jets on a flat surface has been investigated. The unsteady two-dimensional numerical solution for two similar and dissimilar jets was performed using the RNG k-ε model. The results showed that the RNG k-ε model has more satisfactory predictions of the Nusselt number distribution. Comparisons ...

Flow analysis methods in ALICE Event plane from Lee-Yang zeroes

The measurement of anisotropic flow in heavy ion collisions gives insight into the equation of state of the matter formed in the collision. Several methods are available for measuring anisotropic flow. However, methods based on two-particle correlations do not reproduce the flow signal if nonflow is present. Methods based on multi-particle correlations do. A new reaction plane estimate is prese...

Proton-proton physics in ALICE

The ALICE experiment has several unique features which makes it an important contributor to proton-proton physics at the LHC, in addition to its specific design goal of studying the physics of strongly interacting matter in heavy-ion collisions. The unique capabilities include its low transverse momentum (pt) acceptance, excellent vertexing, particle identification over a broad pt range and jet...

Physics with the ALICE Electromagnetic Calorimeter

I will present physics measurements which are achievable in the ALICE experiment at the LHC through the inclusion of a new electromagnetic calorimeter. I will focus on jet measurements in proton proton and heavy ion collisions. Detailed simulations have been performed on jet reconstruction, jet triggering, heavy flavor jet reconstruction through electron identification, gamma-jet reconstruction...
